Santa Catalina Market

Located in the emblematic neighborhood of Santa Catalina, near the sea, next to the port of the city and the Paseo Marítimo. The market still offers the same products as always, but nowadays we can also taste its gastronomic delights while enjoying the typical bustle of a market.

Santa Catalina Market history 

The Santa Catalina market, founded in 1905, is the oldest in Palma. Located in the heart of the neighborhood, where the first settlements were established. It was the market where fishermen, livestock breeders, and farmers of the island came to sell their products and it is still like that.

It preserves part of its culture and identity and still offers the same products as always, but also has become a paradise for chefs, restaurateurs, and cookers passionate about good food.  

In addition to seasonal local produce, you can find a good selection of hard-to-get exotic ingredients and visit numerous bars. It is a fun place to stroll around and also to shop. 

The market is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Saturdays are busy days as Mallorcans grab a drink and go for tapas in the market after shopping.  

Fresh fish and seafood

Pescados y Congelados Aina It is one of the oldest stalls in the Santa Catalina market, with a wide variety of national and international fish, seafood, vegetables, and pre-cooked products. 

At the Pescaderia Genió or Pescaderia Biel, you will find all kinds of fresh and wild fish, as well as first-quality seafood. Pescados y Mariscos Felix specializes in Red Tuna, Norwegian Salmon, Sea Bass, Wild Sea Bream, and Galician Hake.

Pescadería Antonia is one of the smallest and most specialized stalls in the market. Here you will find a delicate selection of fresh seasonal products.

Meat and Deli 

In the market, you can find a wide range of beef, pork, veal, veal, lamb, and poultry. Ecoilla offers top-quality veal from cows raised in Majorca with organic production certification.  Pollería Santa Catalina specialized in poultry products.

At Avesa Carniceria you can find traditional cuts and  gourmet products.  Sa Carnisseria d’en Jaume specializes in local products of the highest quality.

Juanita Carnicería has a wide range of select, fresh and certified meats from the best Spanish native breeds, and the most prestigious international meats. 

Charcuteria Això és Bo specializes in Iberian hams. Charcuteria Franch has a wide assortment of products, from national and international cheeses to cut and sliced cheeses. 

Charcuteria Selecta Izquierdo has a wide selection of hams, cheeses, Iberian cured meats, smoked meats, and foie gras, they have been awarded the “Comercio Excelente” distinction. 

At Charcuteria S’Aglà you get ham, cheese, and wines, they specialize in the knife cutting of Iberian hams. Es Recó by Antonio Serra is one of the few charcuteries in Mallorca that offers Serrano Ham in Mallorca. 

Fruits and vegetables 

In the Santa Catalina Market you can find in stalls such as Frutas y Verduras Contestí, Frutas y Verduras Daniel, Frutas y Verduras Maria de Porreres or Frutas y Verduras S’Hort Rodat where you can find fresh quality products, selected and exotic fruits, seasonal vegetables, mushrooms and aromatic herbs.

Frutas y Verduras Es Banyalbuferí is a historical market stop, which due to its unique size and corner location, is very popular and well known among the locals. Julivert Botiga Ecològica offers seasonal, 100% organic, locally produced fruit and vegetables.

Frutas Ramon offers a wide range of imported products for the Nordic-European and Asian cuisine, especially Thai. Mundo Celíaco offers products gluten-free. 

At A Granel you will find cooked legumes (chickpeas, lentils, and beans), as well as different varieties of rice, organic cereals, coffee, and teas. Cafés Ca’n Joan is ideal for coffee lovers looking for surprises. 

You should go to El Rincón del Bacalao or Es Rebost d’en Pep if you are looking for pickles, salted fish, and preserves. Especias Crespí offers spices and condiments, dried fruits, aromatic herbs, and teas.

The range of bars is also varied. At Bar La Tapita you can eat brochettes, tapas, and even the dish of the day accompanied by a good wine or beer. La Vermutortillería is the perfect place for lovers of tortillas, pickles, and vermouth.

Bars de Mercat has the particularity of allowing each of its customers to bring any of the products they have bought at the market, whether meat, fish or vegetables, and cook them on the grill for a small fee, plus any drinks you may consume.

In Enoteca Sa Roteta you will find many and varied options from local, national, and international wines, especially French and Italian, from small and large producers.

Panadería Àngels is a branch of Ca Sa Camena, with more than 100 years of experience. They offer white bread, the traditional Mallorcan brown bread so used for the pambolis, and the typical llonguets in its different varieties.
