Dessert
Crema catalana
Crema Catalana is a delicious and decadent dessert hailing from Catalonia, Spain. This dish is a creamy custard that is paired with a crispy caramelized sugar top, resulting in a delightful contrast of textures in every bite.
To make Crema Catalana, milk is heated with cinnamon sticks and lemon zest to infuse the liquid with aromatic flavors. The infused milk is then combined with eggs and sugar to create the custard base. This mixture is poured into individual ramekins and baked until just set, creating a creamy and velvety custard.
Once the custard has cooled, a generous layer of sugar is sprinkled on top and caramelized using a kitchen torch or under a broiler. The result is a delicate and crispy caramelized layer that provides the perfect balance to the smooth and creamy custard.
